Tips to Reduce Cancer Risk – There are ways you can lower your risk for cancer. And those things you can do to accomplish it are surprisingly so simple you’ll wish you had done them long before today. Let’s take a look.

1. Stay away from tobacco
Use tobacco—any type of tobacco—and you’ve already put yourself in a red zone. Smoking has already been proven to have a direct link with cardiovascular disorders but such a habit has an even closer relationship with cancer. It’s like you get tobacco and you get cancer—they’re inseparable. Smoking causes renal, cervical, bladder, pancreatic, laryngeal, throat, oral, and pulmonary cancers. Chewing on tobacco leaves, on the other hand, specifically causes pancreatic and oral cancers. Your risk for lung cancer remains high even if you don’t smoke yourself but are around those who do from exposure to secondhand smoke.

2. Live on a healthy diet
Sure, being specific about selections at the grocery store may not automatically prevent cancer but it sure does help reduce the risk. Consider upping your veggies and fruit intake. Make the switch to plant-based food and diet composition. Preventing obesity can also help; you should cut back on animal fat sources and refined sugars. Take alcohol, if you must, in moderation. High alcohol intake is shown to have a link with increased risk for liver, kidney, lung, colon, and breast cancers. Limit, if not eliminate altogether, processed meat in your diet. Large intake of processed meat increase risk of certain cancer types.

3. Keep an eye out for body weight and exercise
Risk of cancers, specifically kidney, colon, lung, prostate, and breast cancers, can be lowered by maintaining a healthy weight. Exercising may help you keep an ideal weight but exercising on its own has the advantage of lowering risk of colon and breast cancers.

4. Defense against the sun
Skin cancer happens to be one of the most common and the most preventable all at the same time. Stay away from midday sun from 10am to 4pm; sunrays are the strongest during this period. If you must go out, stay in the shades. Sunglasses and a hat with broad rim may help. And wear something to cover exposed areas. Wear something tightly woven and loose-fit and choose bright or dark colors, which are more effective in reflecting UV radiation. Use sunscreen of SPF 30 at least and don’t use tanning beds or sunlamps.
